A WONDERFUL EXAMPLE OF A ‘FULL ROHM’ SA DAGGER BY EICKHORN.
I am very pleased to offer a classic and rare example of a FULL ROHM signature dagger by Eickhorn with the variant earky larger oval Eickhorn trademark. As most collectors are aware, anything containing the Ernst Rohm name was ordered to be defaced or destroyed after Rohm was murdered by Hitler in 1934. The daggers Rohm had distributed in early 1934 were subject to this order and many were completely erased or at best, had the signature or part of the dedication erased. Finding a complete, untouched Rohm dagger has always been difficult. It seems Eickhorn and EP&S received the lions share of orders for the Rohm daggers. However, there are about 16 manufacturers who did produce them. This is a classic Eickhorn product in every way. Deep accent lines in both crossguards. Eickhorn fittings to the scabbard. A slimmer more ‘curvaceous’ grip profile, and a separate ‘bench mark’ stamp under the lower crossguard. This one has the number ‘1’. All solid nickel fittings. Nice patina over all of them. A perfect dark hardwood grip with nickel eagle and enamel SA button.
Lower crossguard is Gau stamped ‘B’.
Scabbard has full brown anodised covering and all of the shellac lacquer but this has ‘bubbles’ slightly over the surface both sides. The blade is lovely and 99% mint with all crossgraining etc. both sides. Deep grey colour to the Alles fur Deutchland lettering and the same depth and colour to the full Rohm inscription to the reverse. The Eickhorn trademark used on this blade is the larger oval with squirrel in the centre. CE underneath and the tail of the squirrel is serrated. This was one of SEVERAL trademarks used by Eickhorn from 1933-35 and is not commonly seen on Rohm blades.
A VERY nice example.
