EXTREMELY RARE SET OF ‘DOG LEAD’ HANGERS FOR THIRD REICH NAVAL SWORD.

A very difficult accessory to find. All Weimar & Third Reich naval officers swords were carried with this type of hanger. They are long, braided black leather straps and do look like the old fashioned dog leads (hence the name). Worn in a similar way as the DAGGER hangers, they consist of one shorter strap and one much longer one. The shorter one took most of the weight of the sword. There are snap clips to each end of both straps. Bottom ones clip the sword, top ones to the dress belt. This set are a nice early pair with all brass fittings, chain and regain hook. (later ones were gilded aluminium) They are remarkably in mint condition. The leather has remained soft and pliable and the clips etc are all bright and clean. These hangers just don’t survive like this. The leather dries out and frayes or snaps. If you have a mint navy sword znd need to complete it, you sill NOT find a better set!
