EARLY ALL NICKEL LUFTWAFFE OFFICERS SWORD UNIT MARKED.

Always a favourite sword of mine, and this one a a very good example. All nickel construction. With gilt remaining on the swastika to the pommel and crossguard. The nickel finish is uncleaned, so the patina of the silver compliments the gold swastikas. The blue leather covering to the grip and scabbard is all virtually perfect with nice colour and no wear evident. Top scabbard fitting has the original crescent hanger attached to the scabbard rings. Rare to find this intact now. The scabbard throat is stamped with Luftwaffe unit markings. ‘III/FL 156’. This is marked for the third Gruppe of Kampfgeschwader 157 the Geschwader Boelcke which was formed in Delmenhorst on the 1st of April 1937 from the first Gruppe of Kampfgeschwader 254. The commander of this Gruppe was Oberst Dr Sommer from its date of foundation until the 1st of May 1939. All this history from one marking, and I am sure you could find out a lot more if required.
Blade is a near mint nickel plated type with the SMF seated king logo, etched to the riccasso.
A really nice Luftwaffe sword with some history.
